Data for Research Conduction

Good afternoon,

my name is Jasmin Music and I am studying ´International Economics` in Jönköping. My thesis partner Zachery Sporn and me are really interested in conducting a research about the Effect of COVID-19 on the public transport ridership in Jönköpings Län. In order to discover the effects of the pandemic, we wanted to compare different aspects from 2019 (no pandemic) with 2020 and 2021 (presence of the pandemic). Now, we are wondering about the necessary data in order to analyze the effects. Would there be a way to get access to the public transport data from Jönköping?

We are really thankful in advance and looking forward to your reply.

Respectfully, Jasmin Music and Zachery Sporn

  • Hi Jasmin,

You can use the historic "GTFS Sweden 2" dataset files to see how the scheduled traffic changed through the pandemic.

The historic GTFS files can be found here: https://data.samtrafiken.se/trafiklab/gtfs-sverige-2/

Note that these files include traffic for entire Sweden. You will need to disregard data data which isn't relevant for your research. Since the GTFS standard is used worldwide, there are many tools and guides for it available on the web.

The GTFSSpy-Webviz tool might be a good start to visualize the data: https://github.com/CxAalto/gtfspy-webviz

Let us know if we can help with more data.

    Regards,
    Bert
